Reading even more widely & thoughtfully
At P6, students will be more matured and outward looking.
This is the year they sit for their PSLE but because the students are becoming more interested in other aspects of life, this is an exciting time to expose them to a greater variety of topics and themes.
We weave in captivating and thought-provoking excerpts from a specially curated classic and current pre–teen literature that will excite and engage the students.
Animated group discussions will sharpen the students’ oral skills.
Handling comprehensions with ease & confidence
P6 students’ comprehension skills will be strengthened by exposing them to more thought provoking and inferential questions.
Captivating comprehension passages will be designed from fiction and non-fiction sources.
The students will be exposed to history, geography, culture, health, science and technology as well as inspiring human stories laden with values-teaching.
Sharpening the composition strategy & approach
Greater emphasis will be placed on the PSLE composition component.
We will teach students how to write essays that captures the examiners’ attention so that they can maximise their chances to ace this component.
Rigorous writing lessons will be conducted with a clear, targeted approach and personalised feedback. Their learning of writing and planning skills will be scaffolded and continue to be reinforced. Students will be exposed to more complex settings and value/moral issues.
Students will also learn about characterisation through detailed analysis of specially written lessons that are based on movies, unique characters in literature or inspiring real life heroes. Once they see that writing is just another story-telling skill, they will be inspired to write in their own voice and without fear.
Students who develop their own voice are the ones who truly excel in examinations and progress more smoothly into secondary school.
Transformation is no longer tricky
Grammar, Synthesis & Transformation and Vocabulary will inevitably appear in all our lessons but at P6, we focus on the most challenging components in their weekly homework worksheets.
